A Look Behind the Scenes: Baymeadows Movers Teams Up with Chipman and OMA to Clear Out Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most customers walk into a movie theater thinking about the movie they're about to watch. They spot the giant screen, comfortable seats, and maybe the smell of fresh popcorn. What they don't see is everything going on behind the scenes to make that experience a reality—or what it takes when it's time to phase out decades of equipment and clear the way for the future.

Recently, Baymeadows Movers had the chance to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a one-of-a-kind commercial moving project via our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). As a team, we helped with the removal of outdated projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It was not your usual commercial move. It demanded careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between trusted relocation partners.

Moves like these are one of the reasons we love what we do. No two commercial moves are ever exactly alike, and that's what makes our work engaging.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryOne of the best aspects of commercial moving is the range of work.

During one week we're relocating an entire school before students return for the new year. The next we're moving physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Then we find ourselves inside a movie theater, methodically disassembling and removing equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was particularly memorable because it required removing large digital cinema projection systems, together with several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like going back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection had become the industry norm.

For movie lovers, it was riveting.

For our crew, it was a reflection that every piece of equipment we move carries its own story.

Great Projects Begin with Great Planning

Great Projects Begin with Great PlanningMoves like this do not begin when the moving truck pulls up.

Long before the first projector is unplugged, our team plans out logistics, scheduling, building access, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Collaborating with Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we coordinated every phase of the project to make sure each theater could be completed safely and efficiently. One of the biggest benefits of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is gaining access to a nationwide network of highly experienced commercial movers who uphold the same commitment to professionalism and customer service. By pairing Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to execute the work seamlessly from start to finish.

Movie theaters weren't constructed with equipment removal in mind.

Projection booths tend to be tucked away on upper levels with cramped corridors, constricted doorways, and restricted access. A few sites have elevators, while others don't. Transporting large projection systems through those spaces involves much more than simply putting them on a dolly and heading for the truck.

Each challenge has to be identified before any work begins.

That's where experience makes the difference.

It's All About Much More Than Brute Strength

It's All About Much More Than Brute StrengthIt's often assumed that moving heavy equipment is simply about raw strength.

The honest truth is that commercial moving comes down to preparation, technique, and using the right tools for the job.

Undertakings like the AMC equipment removal demand specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and experienced crews who know how to safely navigate oversized equipment through tight spaces.

Each projector had to be meticulously disconnected, protected, moved through the building, and securely loaded for transport.

Most of these systems are not only heavy—they're also extremely delicate. One careless bump into a doorway or uneven transition could result in significant damage.

Patience and communication are no less important than raw strength.

Preserving the Building Is Equally Important

While our focus is on safely moving equipment, we're equally focused on safeguarding the customer's facility.

Commercial structures represent a sizable investment, and even modest repairs can become disruptive and expensive.

When a project is complete, our goal is for customers to remember how smoothly everything went, not the moving process itself.

Teamwork Makes the Difference

Large commercial moving projects are not a one-person job.

Every member of the crew has a clear role, and communication is critical from start to finish.

One mover may be guiding equipment through a doorway while another stabilizes the load. Someone else is monitoring clearances, while another team member is prepping the next piece for transport.

When seasoned crews work as a team, there's a rhythm that develops. That's expertise that can't be developed overnight.

Observing our team work together was a clear example of what happens when veteran movers share the same dedication to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Levity Along the Way

Baymeadows Moving and Storage team having a little funEven during demanding commercial projects, it's essential to appreciate the experience.

Working inside movie theaters definitely had its perks.

Our crew couldn't help slipping downstairs for a few movie snacks between project tasks. Having spent the day behind the scenes where few people ever get to go, popcorn for some reason tasted even better.

Such moments make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also have fun doing it.

Commercial Moving Is More Than Transportation

Commercial Moving Is More Than TransportationMost people assume moving companies just load trucks and unload them at another location.

Commercial moving is so much more than that.

These engagements often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, handling of specialized equipment, and coordinating multiple contractors.

Each customer has different needs.

Certain businesses have to relocate hundreds of employees across a weekend.

Some need sensitive medical equipment moved without disruption.

Certain projects happen overnight to minimize downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—involve carefully removing specialized equipment from unique environments.

Every move calls for flexibility, foresight, and problem solving.

At Baymeadows Movers, when somebody asks, "Can you help with this?" our first instinct is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Hands-On Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has proudly served Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and experience has taught us that smooth projects all come down to the same core principles:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll arrive prepared, stay in touch throughout the job, treat their property with respect, and solve problems rather than create them.

Whether we're operating inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach doesn't change.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Complete the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Safeguarding a Part of Movie History

Safeguarding a Part of Movie HistoryOne of the unforeseen highlights of this project was encountering some of the original 35mm projection systems that once gave life to countless films.

Well before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines produced lasting experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Working alongside them gave our crew a real appreciation for how much technology has advanced over the years.

It's not every morning that a moving company gets to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

For us, it really was a moment we'll never forget.
